Paintless Dent Removal & Repair - PDR Overview
Paintless dent removal is a collection of techniques for removing dents and dings from the body of a car. This is commonly referred to as 'PDR' or 'dent repair'.
A wide range of car dents can be repaired using PDR. Visit our Gallery and see for yourself!
Specialised PDR techniques can be applied to many types of dent including:
- hail damage
- door dents / dings
- minor car bodywork dents & creases
The techniques can also be used to help prepare a damaged car panel for paintwork to help minimise the amount of filler that is needed.
The most common method of dent removal utilises metal rods and body picks to push the car bodywork dents out from the inner side of the car body panel being repaired. Also, glue may be used from the outside of the panel to pull the dents out of the car body panel.
This method is generally used when there is little or no access behind the damaged area of the dent in the car bodywork . In either case, fine-tuning of the car dent repair often involves "tapping" down the dent repair to remove small high spots, making the surface flat. PDR may be used on both aluminium and steel car body panels.
Fog and line boards are used to see the shadows created by the deformation of the dent, within the car panel. This is an important aspect of the car dent removal / repair process. Without a line or fog board, the fine detail of the process goes unseen, leaving the car dent visible to close inspection.
